Many believers are acquainted with the beloved Psalm of David, Psalm 23. Within this short revelatory poem are many comforting eternal truths.
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. “ While Jesus is our Shepherd, He is also my Shepherd. Our relationship is intimate and personal. He is not a God who is remote but one who is involved with my daily life. He guides me. Because He is the All Sufficient One, I need only Him. He provides all my needs.
“He restores my soul.” The Lord alone can save, heal and sanctify me. It is through His Word and His work in my heart that I am changed, made whole.
“He prepares a table for me in the presence of my enemies.” The thought of feasting in front of an enemy who want to kill you is an extraordinary image. The only way this is possible is if I have complete victory over a defeated enemy-an enemy who is powerless and can only watch me dine. This is the level of victory we have in Christ Jesus! The Father always leads us in triumphant victory in Him. 2 Corinthians 2:14
“Surely goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the lord forever.” King David was convinced that God’s goodness was with him every step of the way. So those of us who are in Christ Jesus should have this same confidence. He will never leave us or forsake us. His mercy never comes to an end.
